Ankle sprain
A common but frustrating injury!
Ankle sprains are incredibly frustrating. Whether it happened on the pitch or during everyday life, you might feel annoyed at that loose rock or uneven step, or even at your ankle for giving way!
Most sprains are “inversion” injuries, where the ankle rolls outward and often damages a ligament called the anterior talofibular ligament on the outer ankle. Less commonly, an “eversion” sprain occurs when the ankle rolls inward and affects the deltoid ligament on the inner side.
After an injury, your body goes through phases of healing. It starts with inflammation and then progresses through repair and scarring. Our role as chiropractors is to assess your ankle, diagnose the type and severity of the sprain, and guide you through recovery. We focus on easing pain, helping you regain full function, and getting you back to what you love, whether it’s your daily activities or sport.
If you’ve sprained your ankle once, you’re more likely to do it again. Many people are left with lingering balance and coordination issues on the injured side, which can increase the risk of re-injury. This is why proper assessment and treatment are essential, not just for healing now but for building a stronger, more stable ankle for the future.
Feel free to reach out if you are unsure whether our chiropractors can assist you with your specific condition or concern. We are here to help.
