Dizziness & Vertigo

Dizziness & vertigo: helping you find answers

If you’ve been struggling with dizziness or vertigo, it can feel overwhelming. Maybe you’ve seen your GP, ENT specialist, or neurologist, had tests, and been told it's nothing serious, but you still don’t feel right. The constant dizziness affects your daily life, leaving you unsure of what to do next. You may have been given generic balance exercises or medication, but the discomfort lingers.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many people with persistent dizziness feel this way, and at Optimum Chiropractic Clinic, we offer a unique approach to help guide you in the right direction. Chiropractor Ben has completed extra post-graduate training in dizziness and vertigo, equipping him to assess your symptoms carefully and help you navigate potential treatments.

Common Causes of Dizziness and Vertigo

Dizziness can come from several causes, and we can help you identify the most likely one, so we can recommend the right course of action. Here are three common conditions related to dizziness and vertigo:

1.BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo)
This happens when tiny calcium crystals in your inner ear become dislodged and move into the wrong part of the ear canal. These crystals can cause a ‘spinning’ sensation when you change head positions such as lying down in bed. If BPPV is suspected, we can guide you to the right treatment, which often involves the Epley Manoeuvre—a highly effective series of head movements designed to clear the crystals from the canal.

2.PPPD (Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness)
PPPD is a long-term type of dizziness often triggered by a vestibular event (like a viral infection or BPPV) or heightened anxiety and stress, that resolves but you are left with a sense of motion and persistent unsteadiness, even when you’re not moving. Treatment for PPPD often involves vestibular rehabilitation exercises and stress management techniques.

3.Vestibular Migraine
If you have vestibular migraine, dizziness is often combined with other migraine-like symptoms such as nausea, visual disturbances, and sensitivity to light. Managing vestibular migraine typically involves identifying and avoiding triggers, as well as adjusting lifestyle factors such as sleep, hydration, and stress management. We can support you in understanding these factors and recommend lifestyle changes to help reduce symptoms.
